Vision & Mission

Our goal at NEFI is to identify, develop and test key technologies for the transformation of industry.

To this end, NEFI supports the development and implementation of pioneering research and demonstration projects in thematically specialized innovation hubs. These drive innovations along various promising technology paths and thus contribute to achieving climate neutrality.

With the Energy Systems Lab, NEFI offers a comprehensive test and development environment for the implementation, implementation and optimization of technologies in existing and new energy systems. The Virtual Industry Lab visualizes project results and solutions.

The energy transition in industry requires significant investments in new technologies.

NEFI supports decision-makers in industry in their investment decisions, especially in technologically demanding areas. NEFI provides a sound data basis in the form of transformation paths so that industry can identify the most efficient path to climate neutrality and make future-proof investments.

A successful transformation of industry requires a suitable funding and legal framework that, among other things, ensures the expansion of (energy) infrastructure and the provision of support instruments and financial incentives.

NEFI develops well-founded recommendations for framework conditions, research & development and climate protection in industry. The basis for this is detailed data from the NEFI scenarios and the NEFI Impact Assessment.

The aim of NEFI+ is to network all Austrian players involved in the development of a climate-neutral industry. These include companies, technology providers, research institutions, decision-makers and start-ups.

Research and development projects are created in the innovation hubs, led by leading experts. In addition, the Industry Board, the Scientific Board and the Board of Innovators bring new perspectives and approaches and thus support the work of the network.

Through collaboration and a multidisciplinary approach, NEFI+ will make a significant contribution to the transformation of the industry into a sustainable, CO₂-neutral future.

A successful transformation of industry is not only based on the development of new technologies and innovations. The transfer of knowledge and its practical application are also crucial. NEFI+ supports these processes through various formats:

NEFI actively supports the innovation hubs in the exploitation of technologies and innovations.

The NEFI Technology Talks bring innovation projects closer to a larger audience, promote understanding of new solutions and knowledge transfer.

The Virtual Industry Lab (VIL) visualizes project results and makes them accessible to the general public. In addition, the VIL toolbox enables a virtual assessment of industrial sites.

The E.Factory Lab aims to arouse interest in the industrial energy transition in schools in order to counteract the shortage of skilled workers in industry and research.

The transformation of industry is a key issue in Europe and worldwide. In order to achieve global climate goals, sustainable technologies and solutions must be deployed internationally. Projects that incorporate a variety of perspectives and experiences at an international level are considered particularly promising.

For this reason, NEFI+ is expanding its international activities to spread Austrian solutions on the global market and establish Austria as a pioneer in industrial transformation.

NEFI+ will develop international research and innovation projects and initiatives to promote cooperation across national borders and contribute to the global transformation of industry.
