NEFI Technology Talk: Carbon Capture Utilisation & Storage

Achieving climate neutrality requires a variety of measures. In some industrial processes, greenhouse gas emissions cannot be completely avoided. However, there is a fundamental possibility to capture, transport, geologically store, or further utilise non-reducible CO₂ emissions in a way that ensures their permanent binding.

The Austrian Carbon Management Strategy (CMS), adopted in June 2024, recommends permitting the geological storage of hard-to abate or unavoidable CO₂ emissions under strict safety and environmental regulations. This raises questions regarding organisational, technological, and economic feasibility, as well as the design of the legal framework.

The NEFI Technology Talk, hosted by the OÖ Energiesparverband, presents and discusses key technical, economic, and legal aspects of CCUS, along with various perspectives on infrastructure, utilisation, and potential storage of hard-to-abate or unavoidable CO₂ emissions.
