Organisers

The networking meeting of the IEA Research Cooperation is an initiative of the BMK and is carried out with the support of ÖGUT and in cooperation with the LIT Factory of JKU Linz and the FFG.

The annual networking meeting is an important cornerstone for connecting the Austrian IEA community. This year, the focus is on technologies and methods that enable the decarbonisation of the industrial sector.

With a share of nearly 29% of final energy consumption, Austrian industry plays a crucial role in achieving climate targets by 2040. The energy-intensive industry, in particular, which accounts for around two-thirds of final energy consumption in the manufacturing sector, represents a significant challenge.

The focus of the IEA Research Cooperation event is on technologies and methods that enable the decarbonisation of the industrial sector. The introductory keynotes will address industrial regenerative carbon circularity as well as sector coupling to reduce emissions.

During presentations of innovative research projects and a panel discussion, representatives from leading Austrian companies will provide direct insights into the industry of the future. The program will be complemented by the presentation of the Net-Zero Industries Awards.

In the afternoon, highlights from the IEA Technology Collaboration Programme “Industrial Energy Technologies and Systems” will be showcased. Participants will get hands-on experience through a guided tour of the LIT Factory and the Christian Doppler Laboratory at JKU, where applied fundamental research is conducted in collaboration with voestalpine and Borealis, focusing on optimising material interfaces.

On the first day of the event (Tuesday, January 28), the interested professional public is invited to attend. The second day (Wednesday, January 29) is dedicated to internal networking among project participants of the IEA Research Cooperation.

On this day, the program includes interactive exchanges and further work on tasks and annexes of the IEA Research Cooperation in the area of industrial decarbonisation. The event will conclude with a guided tour at Fronius International in Sattledt, focusing on “Solar Energy.”

The networking meeting of the IEA Research Cooperation is an initiative of the Federal Ministry for Climate Action (BMK) and is carried out with the support of ÖGUT and in cooperation with the LIT Factory of Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU) and the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG).

This annual event is a key cornerstone for the Austrian IEA community to exchange updates and insights on current developments and news from the Technology Collaboration Programmes, Tasks, and Annexes of the IEA Research Cooperation.

Quick refreshment before the tour

15:30

Two parallel site visits in small groups

It will be possible to visit both options consecutively.

  1. Christian Doppler Laboratory „CDL-AgePol" at JKU
Hybrid laminates with a layered sequence of different materials are used, for example, in photovoltaic modules or wind power generators. In unfavorable load conditions, long-term failure due to delamination can occur. This CD-Laboratory investigates characterisation and testing methods to understand delamination mechanisms between materials under complex loading conditions. More information about CDL-AgePol

  2. LIT Factory an der JKU
The LIT Factory at Johannes Kepler Universität (JKU) The LIT Factory at Johannes Kepler University (JKU) in Linz is a connected teaching, learning, and research factory. Using the example of the value chain in plastic processing, new technologies in digitalisation and digital transformation will be demonstrated. During the tour, you will learn details about the facilities and how they are used in research. Short video about the LIT Factory . Short video about the LIT Factory
