Industrial companies will have the opportunity to make a major contribution to grid stability in Austria as active participants in the energy system. Flexibilities can be used to economically utilise both surplus and shortfall production of electricity. How this should be designed in the future is being worked out by the consortium of Industry4Redispatch. In particular, the view of the needs and requirements of industrial companies are essential to develop a functioning system and to create incentives for industrial companies.

The NEFI HACKATHON 2022 was a special highlight at the Chair of Energy Network Technology of Montanuniversität Leoben at the NEFI_Lab:InToPublic. Students from all over Austria were working from 30th to 31st of May 2022 on green digitalization solutions of industrial energy systems.

A growing need for redispatch is given above all by the integration of fluctuating renewable generation and the progressive integration of the European electricity grids. The I4RD project, launched in April 2021, makes an important contribution to the energy transition as it develops innovative grid-supporting solutions.

Despite numerous efforts to promote and address the issue, the proportion of women in technical professions remains low. During the week of the International Women’s Day, the NEFI Innovation Network will highlight successful female technicians. They are NEFI project managers or are pushing the decarbonisation of industry with their know-how and expertise.

The NEFI project TPC_to_Industry (Thermal Cracking Process for Energy Recovery to Industry) is developing an exergetic integration concept for a “small-scale demonstrator (SSD)” to process secondary raw materials by using industrial waste heat.
