Review of the Industrial Energy Efficiency Conference within the framework of the international conference WSED

The decarbonisation of the industry is one of the central challenges of the energy transition. The Industrial Energy Efficiency Conference, which took place on March 7, 2024, as part of the World Sustainable Energy Days organized by the Upper Austrian Energy Saving Association in Wels, presented new developments surrounding the industrial energy transition.

The event began with the session ´Policies and Programs for Industrial Transformation´,  which addressed key issues of industrial transformation ranging from competitiveness to digitisation and innovation. Prof. Dr. Thomas Kienberger from Montanuniversität Leoben presented solutions for the industry from the innovation network NEFI. The session ´Transformation Pathways Towards Climate-Neutral Industry´ focused on accelerating and scaling innovations and transformation pathways. The final session, ´Showcase Examples´,  highlighted inspiring examples from Austria and other countries, demonstrating that decarbonisation of industrial sites is achievable.
