On October 20-21, 2020 the 3rd Mobility Forum IONICA – New ways in tourism – took place in Zell am See with 600 online and 140 live participants. The NEFI project Clean Energy for Tourism (#CE4T) supported by the Climate and Energy Fund was strongly represented.

As invited speakers, project manager Stefanie Kritzer of Salzburg AG and Tanja Tötzer of the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH presented papers on “Clean Energy for Tourism – Winter Tourism in Transition – Technological Solutions on the Way to Decarbonization” and on “Showcase Region Tourism – Key Elements of a Sustainable Tourism Region” and stimulated discussion on how innovative energy technologies and system solutions coming from research to practice can be used to drive sustainable change in the winter tourism industry. Furthermore, the IONICA was used as a platform to intensify the exchange with participants in workshops on site. An important goal in CE4T is to test and demonstrate new developments and solutions in real operations with the Pinzgau cable car companies and committed regional players, like in a “living laboratory”, and thus to explore and break new ground. To achieve this, the practice partners must be intensively involved and work creatively. In two workshops, the topic of energy communities and their potential for the Pinzgau tourism region was examined and discussed.

In addition, the exchange workshop with regional stakeholders provided an opportunity to obtain more information on the NEFI project CE4T and to find starting points for further relevant research topics and cooperation opportunities.
