At the NEFI Technology Talk "Steam generation with heat pumps in industry" on 31st of May 2023, experts gave insights into the use of heat pumps in industrial processes in six presentations. Thomas Nowak, Secretary General of the European Heat Pump Association, moderated the online talk with over 90 participants.

On May 25, 2023 the NEFI-Team in Linz presents latest developments from NEFI project envIoTcast as part of automotive.2023, Austria's renowned conference for visions, innovations and future technologies in the field of modern mobility. In the NEFI project envIoTcast, the concept of a green foundry is being developed under the direction of the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology.

The domestic manufacturing industry emitted about 28 million tonnes of CO₂e into the atmosphere in 2021 and is thus responsible for more than one third of the total emissions in Austria. In their current study, the experts of the NEFI innovation network have developed three scenarios that provide important impulses for a climate-neutral future of Austrian industry.

The workshop "Utilizing Decarbonised Heat Sources through Regional Heat Networks" focused on exchanging experiences with regional heat networks across Europe. It was part of the annual international conference World Sustainable Energy Days organised by the OÖ Energiesparverband, attracting over 50 participants.

On January 25^th, 2023, the new NEFI project AHEAD (Advanced Heat Pump Demonstrator) was presented in Vienna. in collaboration with the biopharmaceutical company Takeda, the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation, and Technology (BMK), the Climate and Energy Fund, and the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology.

Under the leadership of the AIT Center for Energy, a steam-generating heat pump is being integrated for the first time in an industrial operation. The aim of this natural gas-free steam generation is to achieve a CO₂ reduction of up to 90 percent at one of Takeda's largest pharmaceutical production sites in Vienna, using only natural refrigerants.
