The NEFI project GreenBricks at the demonstration plant in Uttendorf has won the prestigious 'Energie-Star 2024 des Landes Oberösterreich' (Energy Star of Upper Austria) in the category "Energy Transition at Its Best" (original: „Energiewende ganz groß“)!
This award recognises innovative projects that position Upper Austria as a model region for climate protection and the energy transition. Together, Wienerberger and the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology demonstrate how circular economy and climate-friendly production become a reality.
In Uttendorf, Europe's most sustainable brick production facility has been established. Featuring the world's largest industrial electric kiln, powered entirely by renewable electricity and capable of producing up to 300 tons of bricks daily, the plant sets new standards. Innovative technologies, such as a novel clay mixture, the use of high-temperature heat pumps, and energy-efficient drying processes, have reduced CO₂ emissions by approximately 90% and energy consumption by 30%.
Congratulations to all project partners, contributors, and the outstanding project team on this success!
