Circular Economy

HUB

Relevance

The circular economy holds significant potential in the context of industrial transformation. This involves not only recycling or reusing materials but also redesigning existing products and processes and considering the product lifecycle as early as the planning phase.

The circular economy is particularly important in the construction industry. For example, using recycled concrete could achieve a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

In the iron and steel sector, using scrap in electric arc furnaces could considerably reduce the energy intensity of steel production.

In the chemical and refinery industries, recycling PET and plastics can save substantial emissions.

Target group

all sectors, especially cement, steel, petrochemistry

Topic focus

This Hub is looking for projects that can contribute to a transformation of the industrial sector through innovative circular economy approaches .

Potential areas of focus include:

  • Efficient use of resources, material recycling, and implementation of effective waste management strategies
  • Redesign of products and processes to increase lifespan, reusability and thereby ensure greater sustainability
  • Innovative recycling methods and other technologies that promote material efficiency, resource minimisation and waste reduction in industrial processes
