NEFI Projekt Heat Highway in cooperation with IEA Energy Storage Task 41
Participation is free of charge
Energy storage is a key element in the technical and economic balancing of fluctuations in generation and demand. Especially in a future energy system based on renewable energies, energy storage will play an even more important role because the fluctuation of generation will increase, while energy sources such as oil or gas, which currently take on and dominate the role of storage, will become obsolete. Large heat storage systems will play a central role in district heating systems, hydrogen in the electricity supply, batteries in households and also in the grid. In general, energy storage is relevant in all sectors (energy system, industry, households) and energy sources (heat, electricity, gas) and can also take on sector-coupling functions in the form of Power-to-X, for example.
The economic viability of energy storage is the key driver for its establishment. Depending on the objective, thermal, chemical and electrical storage systems have different requirements, degrees of maturity and economic viability.

We cordially invite you to this event!
The event is part of the IEA Energy Storage Task 41 and the NEFI project Heat Highway, funded by the Climate and Energy Fund.
Further information on Task 41 at national level can be found here and at international level here.
Further information on the Heat Highway project can be found here.
Before and after the event, there is also the opportunity to visit the virtual demonstrator and a prototype of a heat highway (district heating transmission network) at Ars Electronica free of charge as part of a guided tour. Please allow for an additional 30 minutes before or after the official start or end of the event. If you are interested, please indicate your preferred date and time when registering.
